A Mission to Provide a Higher Level of Care

Jan 21st, 2021

“Crossing paths with Arielle happened by chance,” said Genoa Healthcare site manager, Michael L. of Waterbury, Connecticut.

It was another bustling day in Michael’s pharmacy when he picked up the ringing phone. A new consumer, Arielle D., was on the other end of the line. She was exhausted and frustrated.

After weeks of filling out paperwork and making calls to get her prescription approved and filled with her previous pharmacy, she was still without her medication.

“I don’t ever give up and this was the first time that I felt like giving up,” Arielle said. “I’m not sure if I would be here today if I was never transferred to Michael.”

Becoming a pharmacist was more of calling than a choice for Michael. After his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he was impressed by the high level of care that his mother’s pharmacy team provided her during treatment. This personal experience led him to change his area of study from engineering to pharmacy.

Driven by his mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality care, he leapt into action for Arielle. With her permission, he started making calls to root out the issue that was causing the delay, and persisted until the error was corrected. Arielle got her medication that same day.

“It truly serves as testament to Mike’s passion for providing care. He’s one of our star pharmacists and this instance goes to show why,” said Simar Singh, director of operations.

“This is what Genoa stands for. This is who we are,” said Michael, explaining why he went above and beyond for Arielle. “I would have done the same thing for anyone.”
