Genoa Announces Winners of Nationwide Art Contest

Jan 22nd, 2018

Tukwila, WA, January 22, 2018 – Genoa, a QoL Healthcare Company, the largest provider of pharmacy, telepsychiatry, and medication management services for individuals with behavioral health and other complex conditions, today announced the winners of its annual national art contest. Art from the thirteen Genoa consumers will be included in a calendar to be distributed to nearly 400 pharmacy locations across the United States. Genoa received more than 400 submissions. “Art has affected me in a tremendous way,” said Brandon Berry, whose painting of a multicolored lion was selected as a 2017 winner. “It helps me cope with my anxiety, restlessness and depression.” This isn’t surprising, considering that a 2010 study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that painting, drawing and music, can reduce anxiety, stress and mood disturbances. “This contest celebrates the talent of the people we serve,” said Mark Peterson, chief commercial officer, Genoa. “Art can be therapeutic for many. This is our way of encouraging that benefit and inspiring others to give it a try.” Kym Clifford, who submitted a watercolor called “Starry Night,” said she produced the piece after her mother passed away, and she looked up to the heavens for guidance. While she’s only been painting for a few years, Kim has been drawing and doing other types of artwork for many years. “It’s gotten me through the most difficult times in my life,” she said. She offers this advice to other potential artists: “Never give up. Art can never be wrong. It’s an expression of yourself.” When Berry found out that he won the contest, he said, “The recognition and acknowledgement has inspired me to paint even more!” He too has advice for those considering art, “Don’t be intimidated by other’s art pieces. There are many great artists and you could be one of them.” For a look at all 13 winners of the contest, click here. # # # About Genoa, a QoL Healthcare Company Genoa has been serving the behavioral health community for more than 15 years. The company provides pharmacy services, telepsychiatry and medication management solutions to more than 630,000 individuals annually in 44 states and the District of Columbia and fills more than 13 million prescriptions per year.
