Improving outcomes with LAIs: Our patient-centered approach

October 27, 2025 | 1-minute read

Long-acting injectables (LAIs) are reshaping how care is delivered for individuals living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use disorder and HIV. These medications offer a powerful advantage: one injection can maintain therapeutic levels for up to six months, helping patients stay on track and reducing the risk of relapse.

Blake Shoemaker, senior manager of pharmacy product at Genoa Healthcare, shares how LAIs are not only clinically effective but also deeply aligned with our mission to serve patients with complex needs.

Our pharmacist-led LAI program is now active in hundreds of pharmacies nationwide, with services ranging from prior authorization support to injection administration where authorized. The program has grown rapidly, with 90% of Genoa pharmacies now offering LAI services — up from just 33% in 2022.

Research published in the American Journal of Managed Care supports the effectiveness of LAIs in improving outcomes for people living with schizophrenia, reinforcing the value of our approach.
