For Genoa Healthcare pharmacists like Farnaz Heidari Kohan, PharmD, being part of the care team isn’t about where they’re located — it's about how far they’re willing to go for the people they serve.
Recently, Farnaz received an urgent call from a prescriber at a behavioral health clinic she partners with. A consumer, Jane*, was in acute distress and experiencing suicidal ideation. She needed access to Spravato, a medication used to treat treatment-resistant depression, as soon as possible.
Most Genoa pharmacies are located within the clinics they support — but Farnaz manages one that’s based off-site. Despite the distance, she and her clinic partners stay closely connected, speaking daily to support continuity of care for the people they serve.
“Immediately it was like, let’s troubleshoot this,” said Farnaz, who had the day off but felt compelled to help. She already knew about the consumer’s background because of her strong relationship with the prescriber and went into problem-solving mode to get her the medication she needed as soon as possible.
When the prescription was filled but the pieces for delivery weren’t aligning, Farnaz knew waiting wasn’t an option. So she personally picked up the medication from the pharmacy and delivered it to the clinic so it would be ready when Jane arrived.
