Bringing behavioral health pharmacy to Delaware

For pharmacist Melody Dauria, PharmD, opening Genoa Healthcare’s first pharmacy in the state of Delaware is about expanding access to the specialized, high-touch pharmacy care that Genoa provides. “I’m thrilled to lead the team that gets to show Delaware what Genoa is all about,” says Melody, who’s the pharmacy site manager at the new location. “It’s the type of pharmacy that extends care beyond the counter – for people with mental illness, substance use disorder and other complex conditions, we offer a more hands-on pharmacy experience.”

For more than 20 years, Genoa has provided high-touch behavioral health pharmacy services to communities across 47, now 48, states. Genoa pharmacies are located in community mental health centers and clinics where people living with severe mental illness and other complex conditions receive care. Co-locating in the clinic allows the pharmacy team to become part of the broader care team and makes it easier for people to get the medications they need, when they need them.

“What I love about being a pharmacist at Genoa is that I get to know my consumers, and their providers, on a first-name basis,” Melody said. “For this population, their experience at the clinic and pharmacy might be their only interaction with others for the entire day. We want that interaction to be personal and special for each individual.”

In addition to supporting people in the clinic where the pharmacy is located, Genoa pharmacies support consumers and providers in their surrounding communities, filling all medications and providing specialized services like:

• Filling behavioral health specialty medications – including long-acting injectables
• Providing Genoa CARE Packaging™ pre-filled pill organizers 
• Assisting with prior authorizations and other insurance questions
• Mailing medications for no additional cost
• Celebrating consumers outside of the pharmacy, through things like Genoa’s annual Art Celebration
