There is a growing demand for better monitoring of primary health indicators for individuals on atypical antipsychotics and many of the medications used to treat mental illness require careful monitoring as part of the clients therapy. However, monitoring these therapies can be a challenge for the population we serve. Providers fill out a lab requisition form and refer the client to a lab to monitor these treatments. The problem with this is, that most times the client never has the lab work completed. This non adherence creates a challenge. The client does not have convenient transportation and does not want to take the time to go to the lab, therefore he or she never goes.

Genoa Healthcare recognized this issue. Genoa’s solution: integrate a centralized clinical laboratory into our pharmacy service offerings. This value added service will help you increase efficiencies for your staff and your clients, make it easier for your clients to receive laboratory work, and noticeably improve care and outcomes for your clients. We believe this addition improves the coordination of care and further supports your goals toward integrated primary and mental healthcare.

This new service also provides the convenience of having your clients’ labs processed at the same healthcare provider that fills your clients’ prescriptions, making it easier for you to monitor medications and overall health. Your clients will no longer need to arrange transportation to a lab. Genoa Healthcare Clinical Laboratory is able to perform most lab tests, including common tests such as: complete blood count with differential, electrolyte panel, metabolic panels, liver panel, renal panel, urinalysis, therapeutic drug levels, and drugs of abuse screening. Our lab can also offer experienced phlebotomists to you and your clients. Our phlebotomists can go to the client's staffed residence or perform blood draws at your agency for all laboratory tests. If you already employ phlebotomists, we can also work with them to develop a program right at your agency. When the samples are collected, they will be processed by our centralized lab located in St. Paul, MN. Genoa will cover the shipping costs to deliver the samples to the lab overnight. Additionally, we can work with your agency to develop a monitoring program to ensure clients are properly monitored for the negative side effects often associated with atypical antipsychotics, for therapeutic drug level monitoring, or any other routine screening your team requests.

  

We are very excited to begin offering this much needed service to our agency partners and clients. The lab has started service with our Minnesota agency partners and clients. We will begin servicing our other agency partners and clients in the following states soon: WA, OR, WI, IL, RI, IN, FL, and NJ.
